Part of the next assessment involves our discussion of the Declaration of Independence. Remember that there are four parts:

The Preamble
The Statement of Natural Rights
The List of Grievances
The Declaration

You may prepare for the test by identifying each one of these parts and explain each's purpose.  Its the perfect activity for half-time of any of the football games this weekend!  Explain the parts to your family, your pet or to your mirror.  Use the Declaration sheet in your binder or Chapter 6 in your text.

This is the turning point document of American History, the document that sets the course for everything we will discuss for the rest of the year.

Essential Objective 2, Part A TEST

The French and Indian War quickly escalated the growing differences between the British and their American colonists.  Generations of self-governing Americans resisted Britain's new found desire to control the commerce and political activities of the thirteen colonies.  We have covered the many events that led to the "Shot Heard Around the World."  For the test on the causes of the American Revolution be sure to review your notes (the thermometer page), Chapter 5 in your text and the Quizlet review found below! The Quizlet can be viewed anywhere with a computer, laptop or smart phone.

Ten minutes each day before Tuesday - and then Tuesday morning - and you will be set.

EARLY WASHINGTON

Today we discussed the role colonist George Washington played in the French and Indian War. As a member of the Virginia militia and as a personal guide to British officers he had a unique inside look to the decisions British officers made in the planning and fighting of battles and campaigns.  What battlefield tactics or strategies did George Washington learn from his time fighting alongside the British in the French and Indian War?

Do not forget that you should be reading Chapter 5!!

9/11

Today is the 11th Anniversary of the attacks of 9/11.  It is interesting to reach a point where most Thunder students have no recall of that day itself.  While times move on, however, the events of that time and its impact do not.  What was happening in Bellevue that day? Check out this short video telling the story from the point of view of many in the Offutt community.

National Geographic

From the August 2012 National Geographic Magazine
Look who made the latest issue of National Geographic! Kobe recently spent time with his family in South Dakota. Part of his trip included visiting his Oglala family. He helped bring down the cottonwood pictured above - he is the young man in the purple on the far right of the tree.

The European Colonies

Who was Francisco Pizarro? Who sent missionaries? What happened to New Amsterdam?

This week Team Thunder is looking at the major European colonies that were established in the Western Hemisphere.  In 2ish like groups students are completing short readings and taking notes.  We will come together at the end of the week to review the notes and fill in any missing information.  We will also continue our discussion on the many ramifications of colonization.

Do not forget that you can already start studying for the test! Look at the Review Quizlets box in the right hand column.
